The Chillout Systems Breakaway Hose Coupling removes that concern entirely — a passive safety device that holds the cooling line securely under normal racing conditions, and releases automatically when the hose is subjected to more than 9 lbs of force.
The coupling consists of two independent latch mechanisms that secure together to form a single, reliable connection point. Under standard operating conditions, the latch resists unintentional release — normal movement, vibration, and routing tension won't trigger it. But when separation force exceeds the 9 lb threshold, whether from a driver exiting quickly or a hose snagging during an emergency, the coupling parts cleanly and immediately without requiring any manual action.
A key design feature is its independence from the existing shirt connectors already on the hose. Rather than replacing those connections, the breakaway coupling is inserted at any point along the tubing where a passive release point makes sense for the specific installation — giving the driver and crew control over exactly where the separation occurs in an emergency.
