Dialing In Driver Fit with Totim Seat Inserts
Seat inserts aren’t exactly the flashiest upgrade in motorsports, but they can make one of the biggest differences behind the wheel.
A good seating position does more than just improve comfort. It helps reduce unwanted movement in the car, keeps the driver more planted under braking and cornering, and helps reduce fatigue. Whether you’re in a sprint car, endurance car, or a formula car, reducing movement in the seat helps drivers stat more focused and consistnet.
That’s why we’re excited to now offer Totim seat inserts at OG Racing!
Totim is the latest alternative to traditional two-part seat insert kits, designed to make the process cleaner, simpler, and far less intimidating for first-time users. Unlike older systems that can get messy quickly, Totim keeps everything contained within the insert.
For drivers using oversized seats, sharing cars among multiple drivers, or simply trying to eliminate cockpit movement, a seat insert can completely change how connected the car feels on track.
How the Totim Process Works
The process itself is surprisingly straightforward:
-
Break the seal between the two internal foam pouches + begin mixing the contents.
-
Wait for the expanding foam to activate + “pop” the inner seal.
-
Place the insert into the seat.
-
Sit in the car + allow the insert to form around the driver.
-
Let the insert cure, then trim excess material as needed.
Lay the insert on a flat surface with the arrows facing up.
Locate the internal seals between the foam compounds.
Apply firm pressure to begin breaking the internal seals in the insert.
Once the seals have “popped,” begin spreading the material evenly through the insert.
Mix the foam thoroughly throughout the insert as it begins to expand + activate.
Place the insert into the racing seat.
Inside the Totim Molding Process
What we really like about the Totim system is that it takes a process that used to feel messy and intimidating and makes it much more approachable for the average driver.
Each insert comes as a fully sealed pouch containing two separate foam compounds, so there’s no measuring, pouring, or direct contact with the chemicals during the molding process. To activate the insert, the internal seal between the two compounds is broken, and the pouch is kneaded by hand until the expanding foam causes the inner chamber to “pop,” which typically takes around 50 seconds.
Once activated, the insert is placed directly into the race seat as the foam continues to expand. At this stage, it’s important to spread the material evenly throughout the seat and smooth out folds or wrinkles before the driver gets into position. As the foam expands, it naturally begins to conform to both the seat shape and the driver’s body position.
From there, the driver simply settles into their normal driving position and remains in the seat for roughly 15–20 minutes while the insert continues to form. After curing for additional time outside the car, the insert can then be trimmed as needed to fine-tune the final fit.
One of the biggest advantages of the Totim system is how contained and straightforward the entire process feels. There’s no mess, no complicated measuring process, and no need to turn the garage upside down.
A Better Fit Behind the Wheel
One of the biggest misconceptions about seat inserts is that they’re only for professional race teams or formula cars. In reality, almost any driver can benefit from improved seat fitment.
A properly fitted insert can help:
-
Reduce side-to-side movement in the seat.
-
Improve support during high-load cornering.
-
Increase comfort over long sessions.
-
Help drivers maintain a more consistent driving position.
-
Improve confidence behind the wheel.
Whether you’re trying to eliminate movement in the seat or simply feel more connected to the car, a properly fitted seat insert can be the difference drivers are searching for. The Totim system takes what used to be a messy and lengthy process and makes it far less intimidating. We’ll be diving deeper into sizing and fitment soon, but if you have questions in the meantime, reach out to the team at OG Racing - we’re always happy to help drivers find the right setup!
