Ermes Molded Mono Earbuds 

If you’ve ever strained to understand a muffled radio call at 110 mph, you already know why these matter. I personally think that everyone should have earbuds and not use speakers, and these just reinforce that belief. These are COMFORTABLE!

The Ermes earbuds aren’t consumer audio products repurposed for racing. They’re derived from medical grade hearing technology and adapted for motorsport environments. That shows up in how they fit, how they transmit sound, and how little they intrude under a helmet.

So… sure, there is a foot of snow outside right now but let’s talk mid-August! Driver heat management is one of the least discussed performance variables in amateur racing; unfortunately, it is also likely one of the most impactful. So, we really should consider investing in our own endurance. 

Drivers lose cognitive sharpness as core temperature rises. That’s not opinion; it’s physiology. Decision making slows, reaction times degrade, and mistakes creep in. The Chillout Genesis is built around that reality. Unlike ice-based systems that taper off as the stint progresses, Genesis is a closed-loop liquid cooling system designed for consistency. Bell RS7 X-Lite Ultra Carbon Helmet

The RS7 X-Lite is Bell doing what Bell does best: refining a proven platform until it becomes a benchmark. The X-Lite is a beautiful piece of carbon fiber. It’s honestly just amazing to inspect and see how far helmets have come in such a short time. 

The ultra-light carbon shell is the headline, but this helmet is the overall package. It has to be one of the nicest SA2025/ FIA 8859-2024 helmets to hit our shelves. The quality doesn’t stop at the shell. This helmet also has the amazing plush Pro interior that makes Bell helmets so comfortable. You’ll notice that this helmet also features more air ports than anyone else; these are all channeled through the helmet, exiting through thoughtfully placed exhaust ports.  

Bell’s SmartLock system gives a reassuringly positive closure, of all the new FIA closures I personally find the SmartLock to be one of the easiest to use once you are familiar with the movements to open it..

So, if lightness is the goal, don’t skip checking out the Bell X-Lite; it’s hard to beat for comfort and weight! 

 

Trac-Com V4 Communication System

Your instructor does not want to yell at you all day. Make every effort to make your HPDE experience better. Grab a Trac-Com Communicator and just speak easy all day! Sounds like such a simple thing, but communication can make or break your track day. 

The Trac-Com V4 reflects lessons learned from years of instructor-student and team environments. The dual independent volume controls aren’t just convenient; they prevent the constant “can you hear me now?” adjustments mid-session.

The backlit LCD is a small but smart touch, but it sure is a nice reference to make sure that everything is set as you expect it to be. But personally, for me, it’s the fact that it’s rechargeable with a dual battery set-up utilizing a 9V backup when needed. That redundancy matters at the track! 

There are a ton of adapters to connect these to your kit. So just make sure to select what you need for your helmet, or select a student headset if you don’t have any communications equipment in your helmet and would like to have a temporary solution.
